How is Chin Surgery Performed with a Jaw Implant?

The jawline structure, which provides a good posture, is the cornerstone of a balanced and attractive face in men or women.

Personalized chin implant placement can improve facial harmony by adding strength to a weak or inconspicuous chin. We asked jaw implants to Plastic Surgeon Tamer Şakrak MD

“Jaw implant surgery, also called chin augmentation that target the contours of the chin, neck and jaw line and are instrumental in the formation of a prominent jaw line.

It preferred by men, an implant is placed around the patient's existing jawbone to increase the size and shape of the chin and to provide a more naturally attractive balance between facial features.

When performed by an experienced surgeon, it can provide a permanent solution to individuals with this type of jaw problem.

If you're bothered by your recessed or weak chin, or if you feel your facial features are out of proportion, chin implant surgery can really add to your appearance.

With the chin implant atreatment, we bring the chin to a better proportion with the other facial features and achieve harmony in the total face.

We also correct weak or sunken chin structure, improve neck and jawline, and bring the "double" chin appearance caused by small jawbones to the right angle.”

An Operation That Takes Less Than 1 Hour

chin“Jaw implant surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. A small incision is made under the chin or inside the mouth.

With this incision, we create space for the chin implant and place the implant around the jawbone.

Performing chin implant surgery alone takes less than 1 hour on average; but if you have additional procedures, the working time will increase accordingly.

Following the surgery, the incision is closed with stitches and the chin can be bandaged.

Jaw implants are small, rigid devices made of a biocompatible material, usually silicone, that are molded to fit around the patient's jawbone.

Jaw implants vary in size and shape; Your plastic surgeon will help you choose an implant that will provide the most natural-looking result based on the degree of enhancement you want.”

You Can Return To Your Desk Job in 2-3 Days

back to work after chin surgery“Jaw implants are very similar to the natural jawbone when they are placed, and when done correctly it is often impossible to tell a patient has had chin augmentation surgery.

Most chin aesthetics patients return to desk work and other daily activities within 2-3 days after surgery. Discomfort is minimal and easily controlled with pain medications or cold compresses.

I recommend lying with your head elevated for at least 1 to 2 weeks after surgery to help control swelling and protect the healing incisions during the chin aesthetic healing process.”

Combined Operations Can Be Done

combined“I would also like to add that while many patients choose to have chin implant surgery alone, combined operations will have a greater effect on achieving the desired appearance.

For example, when we do rhinoplasty and chin aesthetics together, it makes a significant difference in rhinoplasty results. Chin augmentation with rhinoplasty is one of the most common face shaping procedure combinations we apply.

Another combination is liposuction and chin aesthetics. Patients with excessive fullness under the chin generally prefer to have neck liposuction at the same time as chin implant surgery.

While strengthening the chin by itself helps improve jawline definition, removing excess fat from under the chin can further improve the appearance of the lower face and neck.”
