Dermatologist Lanzer and His Risky Operations Are Being Discussed in Australia

Numerous procedures conducted at one of Australia's largest celebrity aesthetic clinics have been described as "dangerous" and "astonishing" by plastic surgeons.

Dr. Daniel Lanzer is an Australian dermatologist who has made a fortune from aesthetic surgery. He has clinics and hospitals nationwide, hosts TV shows, and has millions of online followers through social media.

However, videos, photos, and messages uncovered in a joint investigation by Four Corners, Sydney Morning Herald, and The Age revealed that behind this glamour, some ugly truths were hidden.

'This is incredibly dangerous'

Dr. LanzerDr. Lanzer danced and sang Dolly Parton's song "Jolene" while performing liposuction on a male patient under anesthesia. Former president of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, Mark Ashton, called this behavior "dangerous, disrespectful, and astonishing."

Plastic Surgeon Patrick Briggs mentioned that one of the risks of liposuction is the possibility of the cannula penetrating an organ or the aorta and added, "Not monitoring where this cannula is can be extremely dangerous."

The aesthetic surgeon has 5 million followers on TikTok. Dr. Lanzer films almost everything in graphic detail, including procedures, to share on social media platforms.

In one video, he scolds his staff for not being able to shoot a patient properly during liposuction.

Hygiene Rules Not Followed

hygienePhotos taken in Lanzer's clinics also clearly show human fat stored in kitchen refrigerators, syringes placed next to water bottles, and surgical instruments stored in a suitcase.

Employees were even given plastic shopping bags to take home the accumulated human fat after liposuction and told to dispose of it in neighborhood trash bins.

Four Corners released a video of a storage room at Dr. Lanzer's Sydney clinic, showing surgical instruments stored alongside shoes and personal belongings.

However, Dr. Lanzer denied any issues with his clinics, saying, "We have the highest hygiene and safety standards," and added, "That's why our infection rate has been very low over the last 30 years."

Patients Living with 'Wild West' Traces of Aesthetic Surgery

wild westPatients complain of scars remaining and their lives being "ruined."

Internationally recognized plastic surgeon Lawrence Gray says that taking more than 5 liters of fat at once is dangerous: "If you're talking about removing this much tissue, excessive fluid loading, breathing problems, and even cardiac arrest can occur."

Dr. Lanzer, however, takes pride in being a pioneer in mega liposuction and insists, "In the last 30 years, I've performed literally thousands of cases without a single serious complication."

In a recent online chat with a US-based plastic surgeon, Dr. Lanzer discussed the risks of being sued by patients.

Dr. Lanzer said, "You know, we're lucky in Australia," and added, "The government changed the law a few years ago. You have to do something really bad to file a lawsuit. That's not the case anymore."
