What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty surgery is one of the most difficult of aesthetic and plastic surgery operations. Even in the best hands, rhinoplasty surgery may not achieve the desired results due to the complex anatomy of the nose and the extensive stages of the healing processes. Some deformities or breathing problems may occur after rhinoplasty. At this point, the necessity of a second rhinoplasty surgery comes into question. Rhinoplasty revision surgery is the name given to the operations or operations applied to people who need to be re-operated - after rhinoplasty surgery that does not meet expectations and problems continue.

Revision nose surgery is, in most cases, to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing appearance than the current result. In some cases, revision surgery; It is performed for functional reasons such as nasal congestion and / or respiratory problems.

Revision nose surgery is planned depending on the individual needs of the person. Revision surgery; Revision nasal tip aesthetics (changing the tip of the nose), adding support cartilage to the internal structure or supporting operations such as shaving the cartilage, correcting the nasal skin structure. Revision rhinoplasty is a technically very difficult and complex procedure that should be performed by experienced aesthetic and plastic surgeons, especially in revision surgeries.

Everything You Need To Know About Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty surgery prices vary depending on the scope of the revision surgery to be performed. Although the scope of revision surgery is one of the main items that determine the price, factors such as the choice of doctor and the hospital where the surgery will be performed have a great effect on the revision rhinoplasty prices. Revision nose surgeries performed at an average price range of 15,000 TL to 40,000 TL from city to city; It varies from doctor to doctor.
Revision rhinoplasty surgery is performed in a hospital setting and under general anesthesia. The surgery can be done through a small external incision (incision) inside the nose or at the bottom of the nose between the nostrils. After revision nasal surgery, reshaping the nasal bone and cartilage according to the needs of the person and providing or protecting the respiratory function of the nose, your doctor places the skin and tissue of the nose back and sews the incisions in your nose.

Revision rhinoplasty surgery is performed within 2-3 hours depending on the scope of the surgery. Just like in rhinoplasty surgery, home rest is started after one night hospitalization in revision surgery.
After revision rhinoplasty surgery, you should rest on the bed with your head higher than your chest to reduce bleeding and swelling. Your nose may be blocked due to swelling or from the splints placed in your nose during surgery. Intranasal dressings remain in place for 1-7 days after revision surgery.

Your doctor may also place a splint in your nose for protection and support. This process usually takes about a week. It is normal to see mild bleeding and mucus within a few days after the revision surgery or after dressings are removed. Your doctor will advise you to minimize the risk of bleeding, bruising and swelling.
 Recommendations for the first weeks of the healing process;
  •  Avoid strenuous activities such as aerobics and running,
  •  Take a bath with a bandage on your nose instead of taking a shower,
  •  Do not blow your nose,
  •  Constipation can put pressure on the operation area, causing it to stretch. For this reason, eat high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables.
  •  Keep your facial expressions at optimum. Avoid excessive facial expressions like smiling or laughing.
  •  Brush your teeth gently to limit the movement of your upper lip.
  •  Wear button-up clothing. Do not pull off clothing such as shirts or sweaters over your head.
  •  To avoid pressure on the nose, do not wear glasses or sunglasses for at least four weeks after revision surgery.
  •  When going out, always use sunscreen with at least 30 protection factor. Exposure to too much sunlight without sunscreen can cause permanent, uneven discoloration of the nasal skin.
  •  Reducing sodium-containing foods will reduce bloating faster, stay away from salt.
The healing process and the final shape of the nose are completed in about 1 year after nasal aesthetic surgery. Revision surgery should not be decided because the results that appear before this process are misleading. The ideal time for rhinoplasty revision surgery is 1 year after rhinoplasty surgery. If problems such as curvature or low nasal tip are observed after the first operation, then your doctor may recommend revision surgery after 3 months of recovery.
The lower age limit for rhinoplasty is about 15 or 16 years old for girls and 17 or 18 for boys. Revised surgeries (also called second surgery) can be planned for the age period following this lower limit.
You may be a good candidate for revision rhinoplasty if you meet the age-related conditions, your general health condition is suitable for surgery and you are not satisfied with the results of the nasal aesthetic surgery performed. You will need to wait at least one year after the first procedure before you undergo secondary rhinoplasty surgery.
Revision nasal tip surgery is the name given to secondary surgery for people who have had nasal aesthetics or nasal tip aesthetic surgery but who still have aesthetic or cosmetic problems at the tip of the nose. Revision nasal tip surgery is a more complicated procedure due to the previously treated area.
For revision nose tip surgery, just like revision rhinoplasty surgery, it is necessary to wait 1 year and get the final result. Although the healing process varies according to the scope of the work to be done, it should take 12-14 months for the full result after revision nose tip surgery.

If only nasal tip revision surgery is planned, there is usually little or no bruising after the operation. The majority of swelling and bruising gradually subside over 2-4 weeks.

External stitches (if any) are removed within 4-6 days. Internal seams dissolve automatically. Early results occur within 3 months and final results within 12-14 months. Areas of sensitivity or numbness will gradually resolve; The tip of the nose will feel stiff and this will improve within the first few months. Other temporary conditions may include some airway or sinus congestion, nasal drainage, lumps, and irregularities.
