What is Nipple Aesthetics?

Nipples, which have a special place in breast aesthetics, may in some cases be far from natural appearance and in an undesirable state. These conditions, which are generally due to genetic reasons, may sometimes occur as a result of hormonal changes or drug use.

These aesthetic defects, which can be encountered in both women and men, can be removed by simple and effective surgeries in which the nipple is reconstructed. Although nipple aesthetic surgeries are usually performed together with other breast surgeries, in some cases it is applied solely to correct the nipple. Nipple aesthetic surgeries that require great care should be performed by experienced plastic surgeons.

Everything You Need To Know About Nipple Aesthetics

Nipple aesthetics is an operation performed under local anesthesia unless it is performed together with other aesthetic operations. The factors that determine the price of nipple aesthetics can be listed as follows:

  • Type of nipple aesthetics
  • Number of nipples
  • Plastic surgeon
  • Location of the clinic or hospital
  • Mode of anesthesia

Depending on the above factors, the country average of nipple aesthetic prices ranging from 4.000TL to 10.000TL is 5.000TL.
  • Areola Size or Asymmetry : The dark ring named Areola surrounding the nipple is approximately 5 cm in diameter. However, in some cases (especially after breastfeeding), it may look aesthetically bad by going beyond the required dimensions. Sometimes, patients may have congenital wide areola. This condition, which is more common in women, can also be seen in male patients. If the deformity in this area, which is highly aesthetically important, is to be corrected alone, the surgery is performed under local anesthesia. In order to minimize the scars, the incision is made around the areola line and the process is completed by stitching after the necessary reduction. In the case of asymmetrical areola, areola diameters may differ from each other. In this case, the large areola is reduced and symmetry is achieved in the nipples. The procedure is applied to a single breast and if there is no combined treatment, it is performed under local anesthesia.

  • Nipple Collapse: Nipple collapse is a congenital problem due to short milk ducts. Sometimes it can be seen after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Apart from this, if there is a nipple collapse later, there is usually a health problem under it and it should be reported to the doctor. There are three different levels of nipple depression:

Level 1: Sometimes only massage may be sufficient in the treatment of nipple collapse that can be corrected manually. In cases that cannot be cured by massage, the nipple is fixed outwards with permanent stitches placed behind the nipple and the operation does not prevent breastfeeding since the milk ducts are not touched during the procedure. The problem of collapsed nipple in patients at this level sometimes resolves spontaneously after breastfeeding without the need for surgical intervention.

Level 2: Even if it is corrected manually, the milk ducts are cut to a certain extent in the treatment of the nipple that returns immediately, and the damaged milk ducts as a result of this situation may sometimes interfere with breastfeeding. However, the ducts that are unable to give milk before the procedure can sometimes start working after this procedure and make it possible to breastfeed.

Level 3 : At this level, which is corrected only by surgical intervention, the milk ducts are completely dysfunctional. It is possible to breastfeed before or after the operation, but the nipple regains the desired appearance after the operation.

  • Big Nipple: One of the nipple problems that is not aesthetically liked is the large nipples. This situation, which is more common in women, may sometimes be considered an aesthetic defect in male patients. With the procedure performed under local anesthesia, the nipple is reduced to normal dimensions and if there is any accompanying asymmetry problem, it is corrected.
  • Accessory Breast: Extra nipples, which are congenital and generally do not cause a medical problem, may cause serious discomfort to patients in terms of aesthetics. In this case, excess nipples are removed with the help of local anesthesia.
  • Absence of Nipple: Nipple may disappear after cancer treatments, due to some diseases or as a result of burning and injuries. Sometimes, there are various treatment methods for this congenital condition. Medical tattoo is used for the areola layer of the nipples created by tissue transfer selected from the appropriate parts of the patient's body. If the damage occurs in one breast, the nipple can also be formed by tissue transfer from the other nipple. The surgeon decides on the most appropriate method after a detailed examination. General anesthesia is preferred because the procedures require incisions and stitches in more than one area.
  • Low Nipples: Some women and men may have low nipples that are genetically lower than normal. Although there is no problem in the breast structure, this situation, which is considered a defect in terms of aesthetics, is solved by moving the nipple to the appropriate place. In cases that develop with breast sagging due to advancing age or weight gain and loss, it is performed together with breast aesthetic surgery. In both cases, general anesthesia is used and a pale scar remains around the areola area after the operation.
  • Nipple Augmentation: Surgical intervention is not required in this procedure, which is mostly preferred in Western societies. Various fillers are injected into the nipples to provide a plump nipple appearance and the permanence of the procedure is between 6-12 months.

If nipple surgeries are performed alone without being combined with other breast surgeries, in most cases they are performed under local anesthesia. After surgery:

  • Patients are discharged on the same day.
  • Special surgical bras are used for 3-4 weeks following the surgery.
  • Sexual intercourse is not recommended for the first 10 days after surgery.
  • It is normal to experience pain and sensitivity in the operation area in the first week.
  • Heavy sports should be avoided for one month following the surgery.
  • Heavy lifting should be avoided until the wounds have healed.
  • Medicines given by the doctor should be used regularly.
  • Permanent surgery scars
  • Bleeding
  • Swelling and redness in the operation area
  • Infection
  • Loss of sensation due to nerve damage in the operation area
  • Milk production stops and breastfeeding is no longer possible as a result of cutting milk ducts during surgery.

  • Short recovery time
  • Provides self-confidence by eliminating nipple aesthetic problems
