What is Chin Surgery?

Chin Surgery is the name given to the process of aesthetic correction of problems related to the congenital or post-formed jaw area (such as small or large jaws; inward jaw, protruding jaw ...) with surgery, prosthesis or filling applications. Jaw tip aesthetics is also an aesthetic operation that is highly demanded by patients.

Everything You Need To Know About Chin Surgery

Chin Surgery involve very different procedures from each other and are planned individually. Chin surgery operations performed with non-surgical methods with filling materials are applications that can be performed in a clinical setting, but all applications requiring incision and stitching under general anesthesia should be performed in the hospital environment.

There are differences depending on the anesthesia taken in the chin surgery prices (in case of general anesthesia, the hospital is given one night, which is an important item on the fee), the hospital where the surgery or the application will be performed, the province where the hospital is located, the district, the doctor and other factors.

Chin surgery prices are made between 6000 and 15000 TL on average. Non-aesthetic parts of chin surgeries are covered by private health insurances and SSI. Since jaw defects, which have negative consequences on the general quality of life of the person, will be considered mandatory surgery for health, the health-related procedures of the surgery are covered by the health insurances. Chin surgery prices to be made with applications such as filling, liposuction, fat collection and fat transfer are not covered by SGK.

There are more than one chin aesthetic application. One or more of these methods may be preferred according to the intervention needed in the chin area of the person.
  • Chin Surgery with Filling Applications:
Chin surgery filling applications are divided into two as fat injection and external injection materials.

  • Chin Surgery with Fat Injection
It is performed in order to enlarge the chin area by transferring the fat tissues taken by liposuction method from the waist, abdomen and / or under the jowls of the person to the tip of the chin. Fat injection is usually performed under sedation anesthesia and local anesthesia. Rarely, general anesthesia may be preferred depending on the size of the area to be fat collection. It is a process that takes an average of 1.5-2 hours with the collection and injection of fat. If the person has not received general anesthesia after the operation, he can return home the same day. In the first week after the application, slight swelling may be observed in the treated area.

Chin Surgery with External Injection Materials Injection: It is performed to enlarge the chin area by transferring fillers such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, aquafilling to the tip of the chin. It is a process that takes an average of 15 minutes. Creams with local anesthesia can be preferred to alleviate the sensitivity of injection. The person can return to his daily life immediately after the procedure.

  • Chin Surgery with Jaw Bone Surgery
It is a set of surgical procedures performed on the jawbone area. In the aesthetic arrangement of structural disorders such as the jaw bone structure being behind or ahead compared to the facial axis, the jaw bone being narrow or wider than the normal structure, the jaw with many surgical interventions such as rasping, short jaw lengthening, jawbone or cartilage placement (Orthognathic Surgery) aesthetic surgery can be done.

Chin surgery with chin filing is performed under general anesthesia in a hospital environment with an incision made in the mouth. Postoperative liquid nutrition is ideal. At the end of an average of 4 weeks, the person will recover in a way that he can perform normal daily activities without any problems.

With jaw bone placement surgery, the lower jaw, upper jaw, and in some cases both the lower jaw and the upper jaw are operated together. Jaw aesthetic treatment with jawbone surgery is based on the principle of placing the prosthetic jaw or bone taken from the person's own body into the jaw area. Jaw bone surgery is performed under general anesthesia in a hospital environment. The operation is completed in an average of 1-2 hours. The person is discharged after staying in the hospital for 2-3 days. At the end of an average of 4 weeks, the person will recover in a way that he can perform normal daily activities without any problems.

  • Jaw Aesthetics with Silicone Implants
Another method is to provide jaw aesthetics with silicone implants in cases where the jaw structure is inverted or buried. Jaw aesthetics silicone implant application is a method performed under general anesthesia in a hospital environment. It is based on the placement of a silicone implant on the tip of the jaw with an incision made through the mouth. The prosthesis is set in place within 3-4 days after the operation. After the application of chin aesthetics with silicone implants, redness spreading to the face in and around the implant area can be observed. This effect is temporary and usually disappears within a few days. After the application of chin aesthetics with silicone implants, some people may experience swelling and bruises that heal within 7-10 days. In terms of the healing process, the person can return to his daily life after 10 days.
Chin surgery is one of the areas of great importance on the person's appearance. Deformity, loss of function, and aesthetic defects in the jaw area are mostly caused by congenital genetic transfer and can occur later with age, therefore it is a problem that concerns people from all age groups. For treatment, surgery planning after the age of 18 is ideal, provided that there is no condition that affects life functions in the early period.

  •  People whose jawbone is behind or beyond the facial axis,
  •  People with large or small jaw bones,
  •  Persons with pointed chin,
  •  Persons with a sunken chin,
  •  People with jaw bone loss,
  •  People with jaw bone loss,
  •  People with no problems in general health
They are suitable candidates for jaw aesthetic applications and surgeries.
People who are allergic, have problems in general health, pregnant and breastfeeding are not the right people for chin aesthetic surgery and applications.

  • The healing process after chin surgery varies according to the anticipated treatment model and the scope of the surgery to be performed. With jaw surgery, the patient is discharged after staying in the hospital for 2-3 days after surgery.
  •  After the surgery and other jaw aesthetic applications, the nutrition of the person is provided with liquid foods in the first week. The transition to solid food is gradual. Your doctor will plan the right time for you.
  •  Swelling in the mouth area, bleeding in the form of leakage, swelling and bruises in the chin tip, under the chin and cheek area can be observed on the first day after the chin surgery. These findings are normal and usually disappear by the end of the first week.
  •  After the surgery, your doctor will ask you to use antibiotics if the chin aesthetics have been performed. This is one of the routine applications to eliminate the risk of infection development after every surgical operation.
  •  After the chin surgery, rest and sleep are recommended so that the head area is elevated. It is important to choose the sleeping position in this way in order to experience the least bleeding, bruising and swelling.
  •  Before the chin surgery, if the surgery will be performed for a single chin, 1 bite plate (plastic splint) will be prepared if the lower and upper jaw will be operated together. These splints help to keep the tooth and jaw motionless, as well as to ensure the ideal position of the lower and upper jawbone relative to the base of the skull and the relationship between them. You should use these bite plates after jaw aesthetics for the period prescribed by your doctor.
  •  Depending on the type of application after chin surgery, the person can return to normal life after an average of 10 days. This period may be shorter in filling material applications and longer in surgical applications.
  •  Surgical interventions after jaw aesthetics are sutured. These stitches are usually self-melting stitches. It does not need to be taken. If stitches are removed, this is usually done within 5-7 days. It may take 2 months for self-melting stitches to move away from the area.
  •  After the jaw aesthetics, time is needed for the mouth area and intraoral swelling to return to normal and the chin to take the final image. While the swelling completely subsides at the end of the first month, it is necessary to wait 3 months with the final appearance of the chin. This period works differently in filling applications, and the jaw area where filling is applied regains its normal appearance after about 4-6 weeks.
  •  After chin surgery, attention should be paid to oral hygiene. After each meal, the mouth should be rinsed with plenty of water, and oral care should be completed with special solutions recommended by your doctor.
  •  Vaseline is recommended to remove the sensitivity that occurs in the lip area after chin surgery, and to reduce disturbing situations such as stretching, drying, crack formation.
  •  After the chin surgery, some sports activities should be careful. Normal pace walks and light exercises can be done in the first month following the surgery or application. However, sports branches such as boxing and basketball that are open to collective or impact should be avoided during the first 3 months.
