There are two basic types of breast implants: Saline and silicone gel.

Saline-filled implants are silicone shells filled with sterile salt water (saline).  Some are pre-filled and others can be filled after they’re placed, which means incisions and scars can be smaller.

Silicone gel-filled implants are silicone shells filled with a plastic gel (silicone). Since silicone implants are filled they do not allow changing size according to body proportions.

There are two types of silicone gel-filled implants. The ones that are much more similar to natural breast tissue with a round form and filled with thick silicone gel and the ones teardrop-shaped implants which are denser and firmer but protect shape better for a long time.

Silicone implants are normally used for breast reconstruction surgery for breast cancer patients for they don’t wrinkle or ripple. Both saline and silicone come in different sizes and have either smooth or textured shells. Each has its own pros and cons, so it is a matter of preference.

The best implant will depend on the needs of each individual patient. Appropriate prosthesis is preferred according to the breast and rib cage structure of the person. At this point, a realistic prosthesis should be preferred.

The prosthesis is placed through the incisions made under the breast of the person. In this way, more permanent breast growth is achieved.

Prosthetic silicone is placed in 4-5 cm incisions in the section under the breast. Silicone prostheses to be used during the procedure are produced by many companies around the world.

One of the most confusing issues regarding breast silicone prostheses is whether these prostheses pose a cancer risk.

First of all, these silicones are subjected to many tests and are produced completely reliable. Therefore, we can say that there is no risk. Breast silicones are usually placed under the breast of the person. It can also be placed from the nipple and under the armpit.
